Acupuncture is an effective form of health care that is recognized by the National Institute of Health (NIH) and the World Health Organization (WHO). It is a noninvasive medical technique that uses fine, sterile needles placed at specific acupoints on the body. It promotes natural healing by enhancing recuperative power, immunity, and physical and emotional health. Herbs are sometimes used as a powerful adjunct to acupuncture care.

Acupuncture has been used for thousands of years to treat almost every illness and health challenge known. It uses delicate, sterile needles to stimulate the body’s self-healing abilities by applying gentle pressure to acupuncture points. These points occur along energy pathways, known as meridians, which interact directly with all the major systems of the body. Acupuncture creates greater balance in the body in order to improve general health, and to relieve current symptoms. Digestive difficulties, musculoskeletal complaints, headaches, a weak immune system, migraines, menstrual problems, chronic pain, injuries and sleeping problems are just a few of the conditions acupuncture can help.

Dr. Caroline Colonna
Acupuncture is one branch of Oriental Medicine. The acupuncture treatment starts with a consultation between the doctor and the patient. From interviewing, observing & palpating the patient, the practitioner is able to gather specific information in order to determine the diagnosis. The quality of the diagnosis is key in establishing a treatment plan for the patient. A treatment plan consists in one or a series of acupuncture sessions aimed at correcting imbalances identified in the diagnosis. As the patient improves, the diagnosis changes and the treatments are adjusted to reflect the patient's progress.
