Though Seventies songster Nilsson was making a broad philosophical statement, there may be a number of practitioners of the ancient Chinese healing art of acupuncture who feel a kinship with the sentiment expressed in his words. Think of acupuncture. What sticks in your mind? For many, the first image that comes is a point - the point of a needle. But that doesn't always have to be the case. Acupuncture is one of the most researched and respected of the healing arts. In its fullest sense, it is a complete medical system. It combines herbs, diet, massage and exercise with treatment procedures such as the familiar technique of inserting needles into the body to effect healing. It has been in use for at least 5000 years. Acupuncture is detailed in the world's oldest medical text, The Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine. Dating to several centuries before Christ, the text is still the definitive theoretical foundation for the practice of acupuncture. (Don't look for the latest edition at Border's, but it is used in most of the 30-plus acupuncture schools currently in the U.S.)Acupuncture is used to address physical, emotional and psychological problems.

The number of acupuncture treatments needed depends on the complexity of your illness, whether it is a chronic or recent condition, and your general state of health. For example, you may need only a handful of treatments for a recent sprain, whereas for a long-standing, chronic illness, you may need treatments once or twice a week for several weeks or months to get good results Since acupuncture, like chiropractic, helps the body function properly to heal itself, virtually every condition known to man can be helped with acupuncture. The doctor may chose not to treat certain points during pregnancy. However, even during pregnancy there are a number of benefits that can be obtained from acupuncture.

Acupuncture is the stimulation of specific points located near or on the surface of the skin which have the ability to alter various biochemical and physiological conditions in order to achieve the desired effect. The classical Eastern explanation for how acupuncture works is that channels of energy or “Qi” run in regular patterns through the body and over its surface. These channels, called meridians, are like rivers flowing through the body to irrigate and nourish the tissues.

Acupuncture (or more accurately "meridian therapy") is a system of treating disease and maintaining health by balancing the energy in what are called meridians. There are 12 meridians on each side of the body. Energy continuously flows throughout the body passing from one meridian to another, and then back to the original meridian.
Each meridian is associated with an organ or function of the body. Every organ or function depends on a normal energy level. Using applied kinesiology methods, the meridian system can be evaluated to determine which meridians are overactive or underactive.By using meridian therapy, any energy imbalances can be restored immediately. Stimulation is usually done with digital pressure administered by the doctor. The stimulation by acupuncture needles is usually not necessary. The number of treatments required varies with the severity of the ailment and the patient's response to the therapy. To remain free of symptoms, a check-up every three to four months is recommended to insure proper energy flow.

"I have been receiving acupuncture & Chinese herbal treatments since 1977. I have been to a lot of different practitioners, both Chinese & non-Chinese. Donna Huber stands out as one of my 3 favorites. Her needle insertion technique is better than other acupuncturists I've encountered and she has a wealth of knowledge about general health as well. When I go to her for treatment, I can sit down and really discuss what is going on with me, without being hurried onto the table then out the door. Without hesitation I recommend Donna to anyone, anytime, who needs a good acupuncturist. "When I first met this intuitive healer was when she healed my severely painful left shoulder. I had tried conventional treatment, drugs, etc, to no avail. Our relationship as patient, practitioner and friend has progressed through the recovery of a hip replacement, badly damaged and arthritic knees and all over arthritis. In the months that I received treatment from Donna, I have had considerable relief from pain. Her acupuncture, emotional and nutritional counseling are excellent."
